Ted Malone sits on a sidewalk with two young white French girls as a war correspondent. The girls wear pinafores over sweater dresses, The one on his lap wears thick socks and leather shoes. The one beside him has bows in her hair. Neither child smiles.

Typewritten note attached to back, "These two little French girls must have reminded Westinghouse reporter Ted Malone of his own daughters, Happy and Bubbles. He took time out to chat with them during his tour of the European battlefronts." Stamped in red on back, "Ted Malone FILE COPY."
