A family of Sami people are standing outside a dwelling of vertical logs that meet in the top, center. The top is covered with hides. The dwelling is either being taken down or being built in Lapland, Sweden. Each person wears a tall hat and a long coat. A boy rests on one of the a steps hewn out of a log in order to reach the top of the dwelling. A man smoking a pipe looks to the top of the dwelling with his hand on his hip. Two women stand at the base of the dwelling; one in the doorway; one facing the doorway. Another girl, perhaps a neighbor, is standing off to the right side of the photograph. Reindeer antlers are set on top a grid of poles to dry behind the dwelling. More dwelling, already fully covered in hides, are raised across the path. Walking paths are all around the dwellings.
