Details
A photograph of a pen and ink drawing by José Chaves. The drawing shows a busy bullring with a large crowd in the stands across the top of the picture. In the foreground, a matador, with one foot off of the ground, twists as he impales the neck of a bull with a banderilla in each hand. Three banderiillas are already inserted into the bull's neck. Another matador, with more bandarillas in his hands, is walking across the bullring toward this ongoing battle. In the background, two madatadors are talking just inside the fence around the bullring. A horse lies on its side on the ground just inside the wall around the bull ring. A picador rides his horse to the left side of the picture while carrying a long spear. The drawing is signed, "J. Chaves", in the bottom, right-hand corner. Written in script in the margin below the photograph, "No. 86. Banderillas al Cuarteo, J. Chaves."
