Details
An Etching published by Mansell Hunt Catty & Co., titled "Gateway of the Bloody Tower". The gateway to the Bloody Tower is in the Tower of London in London, England [illustration]. The Etching shows a vine covered rock wall with a gateway through the wall. A wide doorway is in the center of the gateway to the right of the pathway through the gateway. A staircase can be seen through the gateway in an interior courtyard. A metal gate is pulled up to leave the gateway open but the bottom can be seen where the spikes would go down into the ground when the gate is closed. The pathway through the gateway is cobblestone. There are stone sidewalks on either side of the pathway. A small paned window is to the right of the gate and another window is in the upper right-hand corner in a stone tower. Printed across the bottom center in dark ink, "Gateway of the Bloody Tower." Printed in the lower left-hand corner in dark ink, "Mansell Hunt Catty & Co. Lo." A signature is among the hashmarks of the pathway in the lower left-hand corner, but it is illegible.
