Details
Panorama of Brighton Beach in Brighton England. People relax on the beach or comb for shells or sea life in the water. Many utilize umbrellas. Several row boats and one sailboat are beached on the shore. There are benches among the beachgoers and boats, but no one is using them. A stone pier runs along the bottom of the photograph. Kings Road runs between the beach and the buildings of Brighton. Under the road toward the beach, 25 arched doorways face the beach. On down the road from the doorways, a triangular ramp supported by a building underneath, allows beachgoers to go up or come down from Kings Road. Seven arched windows are centered on the building that the ramp is built on. Several people are on the ramp. The arched doorways under Kings Road, some with awnings, continue after the ramp all the way down the beach. On Kings Road are horses and carriages with drivers and people riding horses, and other walking. The first seven-story building with a spire in the center across Kings Road on the left side of the photograph is Hotel Metropole. Many of the windows of the hotel that look out to sea over a balcony, have awnings. The portico into the hotel has a gabled roof. The promenade shelter at the street in front of the hotel has a hip roof. A few buildings stand between Hotel Metropole and the next large building, the Grand Hotel. The Grand hotel is seven stories tall with balconies facing the beach along each story. Other lower buildings follow the grand on down Kings Road many with awnings over the sidewalks outside of their entrances. Large waves are visible on the right center of the photograph.
