Chester Rows looking southeast down Eastgate Street, near the intersection of Werburgh Street in Chester, England. Chester Rows are a set of Georgian and Victorian buildings in each of the four main streets of Chester, in the United Kingdom, consisting of a series of covered walkways on the first floor behind which are entrances to shops and businesses. At street level is another set of shops and other businesses, many of which are entered by going down a few steps. From left to right, the businesses with legible signs at street level are, J. Little & Sons, E. Spencer Watch Maker, Thomas Nicholls & Co. Tobacco Manufacturer, G. McLellan & Son, Phillipson & Golder, printers. A handcart stands on the sidewalk in front of J. Little & Sons. The windows of G. McLellan & Son are being cleaned by a man standing on a ladder. A few men stand here and there on the sidewalk talking. Seven horse-drawn carriages with a driver in each carriage are on the cobblestone street. Printed in the center margin above the photograph, "-674-."
