A Kandian chief and family are wearing traditional clothing and jewelry as they sit or stand in a room in Kandy, Sri Lanka [then Ceylon]. He is the only male in the family. They all look somberly at the camera. Embossed on the bottom left-hand corner of the photograph, "Apothecaries Co Ltd, Photographers, Colombo, Ceylon." Printed in white ink on the bottom left-hand corner, "Kandian Chief and Family No 246." Printed in white ink on the bottom right-hand corner, "C. A. Co. Ltd."
