A group of workers have their backs to the photographer as they watch a crane get ready to support the Rockefeller Center's 1953 choice for a Christmas tree, a Norway spruce near Morristown, New Jersey, before being cut down. A car is parked directly behind the tree of choice.

Handwritten on back, "#3 A crane with an 80-foot boom is moved into position and two cables attached to the trunk to hold the 5-ton tree upright when cutting operations begin. Before the crane moved into position, electric power on the estate had to be cut off and the power lines in front of the tree, shown on previous picture, had to be taken down."
